Gagnon could’ve placed second in the contest and still won the Dew Cup, but he wanted to win it all.
“It wouldn’t be competing if I wasn’t trying to win,” Gagnon said.
White didn’t grant interviews, and issued a brief written statement.
“I had an amazing season winning golds at Winter and Summer X Games,
but I had a hard time at Dew Tour,” White said. “I’m excited to head
into winter and come back stronger next summer.”
White, an Olympic
gold medalist in snowboarding, went into his final vertical run a
half-point behind Gagnon, but tumbled with seconds left on the clock.
That kept him at 91.5.
White earned that score with a run that included a 720 and three 540 tricks.
Gagnon’s
winning aerial display featured a 720, a kick-flip 540 and a couple 360
variations. He said if White had moved ahead of him instead of falling
he would’ve added a difficult trick to his final run.
Lasek, a
past Dew Cup champion, said although he didn’t accomplish his goal of
winning in Las Vegas, he was pleased overall with his performance.
Competing against White and Gagnon pushes him to improve his skills, he said.
“These guys are really innovative and very competitive, so it’s very tough to beat those guys,” Lasek said.
Lasek, who will turn 39 in December, said he plans to keep skateboarding, at least for a while.
“I want to win when I’m 40,” Lasek said.
